♪ Do you know who I am? They call me Judgement Boy! Do you know who I am? They call me Judgment Boy! ♪
— Judgment Boy, from his debut [1] in the anime

Judgment Boy is an anthropomorphic set of scales with a very strong moral compass. A former human lawyer, he came to the hotel in search of the true meaning of justice and truth. He turned into the "Scales of Truth" from deliberating too hard on what justice and truth actually are, and concluding that he himself is justice and truth. There are multiple Judgement Boys around the hotel, with one being the original and several others being copies (manufactured in the Judgement Factory), including Judgment Boy Gold. In the anime, each Judgement Boy has a unique accent. They are all trained on how to be judges by Judgement Boy Gold, and all refer to each other as "Judgement Boy". He is the first resident to appear in the show.

Profile[]

Background[]

Judgement boy moves around the hotel suspended by a rail system connected to the ceiling, although he has been known to drop from places where no ceiling can be seen and float in the air. He weighs the soul of whoever he encounters by presenting the person with a hypothetical situation where the person must choose between love and money (which can range from questions such as choosing to sign a life-changing business contract or visit the person's significant other in the hospital, or choosing between coffee and tea).

After hearing the person's answer he will consult the "Balance of Truth," spin around while shouting "Judgement!", and stop to say the word "Now!", as the bottom hatch from one of his scales drops either the glass heart or the gold nugget he carries. If the heart drops, he finishes with "It was your choice, you get to live with it", or congratulates the guest if the gold nugget drops. If the gold nuggets drops, he will finish with "And that's the truth! See ya!". He will sometimes award the guest with a prize if they choose love instead of money. Whenever he drops the contents of his cages, prompters will arrive to clean up the mess and restock his cages.

The classic design of Judgement Boy has him sporting a shirt with horizontal yellow, red, and pink stripes. The interior of his shirt is yellow. His skin color is orange and he has a circular pink nose. His hat has horizontal pink and violet stripes. He has blonde hair and eyebrows. His irises are black with a hint of red. He wears half-circle glasses with black rims. He has black eyelids. His teeth are sharp and he bares noticeably large fangs. He has two steel bars for arms with black spheres at the shoulders and ends. His steel arms can bend at where the elbows would normally be. Connected to each end of his "arms" are steel cages supported by chains, each holding either a gold dollar sign or a heart, respectively. The heart and the gold dollar sign both emanate a faint glow. He has two circular black five-ton weights strung vertically underneath him instead of legs. The original Judgement Boy's shirt reads "The Judgement Day" while the copies have a number printed on instead, such as "1", "2", or "3". This excludes Judgement Boy Gold, who has a large metal G welded to his shirt. None of the Judgement Boys appear to be capable of frowning in Gregory Horror Show and Soul Collector, but can do so in Gregory Horror Show: Another World. He has a comparatively deep voice in the English Dub of Soul Collector and Gregory Horror Show in contrast to the original Japanese voice acting.

The modern design of Judgement Boy is near identical to the classic (save for the non-blocky design), except he has human arms instead of metal bars and is missing the large fangs. He has four fingers on each hand, each tipped with a sharp black claw. The cages are not welded to his hands and appear to be made out of bronze instead of steel. He has a much larger grin and his lower teeth are visible in his smile. He is also missing his eyebrows and the tuft of hair on the top of his head. There are two thin lines going down the sides of face.

The Judgement Boy manga design from Gregory Horror Show: Another World is a combination of the classic design and the modern design. It keeps the steel arms, eyebrows, top hair tuft, and fangs, but has the rounded look of the modern design. It does not have the face lines from the modern version. The Judgement Boy manga design also wears black lipstick, something neither the modern version nor the classic version wear.

Personality[]

Judgement Boy is harmless to guests at the hotel, but likes to stop other guests in the hallways to ask them random questions with two extreme choices. He loves to spin around in circles and enunciate words for dramatic flair. Bananas can be found in the Judgement Factory in Soul Collector, which could mean he is fond of the fruit. He can sometimes be found sleeping alone in his room in Soul Collector, and will talk in his sleep, often during his nightmares. Judgement Boy seems to be aware he is inside a videogame (and an anime), as he will sometimes break the fourth wall and address the viewer directly.

Judgment Boy first appears in Night 2 of Volume 1. He then becomes a reoccurring character and fourth wall breaker. He appears in all three mainstream seasons except The Bloody Karte. Judgement Boy gets run over a by a train in Volume 3, and his decapitated body can be seen later in one of the train's box cars. His corpse is eventually thrown out with the rest of the garbage. It is unknown if the Judgement Boys can be repaired once sufficiently damaged.

Judgement Boy later appears in The Gallery Tour[2], where he is trapped inside a painting by Gregory along with the rest of the hotel guests.

Appearance in Gregory Horror Show: Soul Collector[]

Judgment Boy appears on the first night, after you deliver Catherine's soul to Death. To get his soul, you have to play his judgment game. To play his judgement game, you need to get a specific key item first: the Self-Help book. Sneak into Room 104 when Catherine isn't present and find the Dirty Book. Give the book to Gregory and he will direct you to the Library for some more "wholesome reading". When you go to the Library, look for the Self-Help Book on the central shelf. Find Judgment Boy again and talk to him with the Self-Help Book as your active key item. When prompted, select "Just try and stop me!". This will cause Judgment Boy to drop his dollar sign-shaped golden nugget. He will then reward you with the soul he's carrying as your prize. Attempting to choose the other option will result in the heart falling instead; using any other item has a question where both answers result in a falling heart as well.

Along with TV Fish, Neko Zombie, and Judgment Boy Gold, he is one of the only friendly guests at the hotel. He will never chase or harm the player even after his soul is taken.

Appearance in Gregory Horror Show: Another World[]

Judgement Boy from the manga.

Judgment Boy appears in chapter 6, "Judgeman". He gives the main character a prompt about attending a large carnival and choosing to throw away a used cigarette on the ground or make the extra effort to dispose of it properly. When the main character says he would rather drop it on the ground, Judgement Boy says the cigarette would eventually lead to the tents catching fire and burning down the parade. He then proceeds to chase the main character around for a short while, repeatedly calling him a murderer.
